Chilling out, relaxin' and maxin' all cool

I'm a dirty, filthy liar.

I said yesterday that I would take pictures of our Halloween costumes - and I wanted to, I really wanted to, but I also wanted to remember my camera and that didn't happen.

I would have taken pics once we got home, but by the time we got back from Mr. Dub's work Halloween party, Miss Dub's mascara mustache was half-eaten off, and I'd realized just how unfortunate I look in a pair of black leggings (without this season's flowing shirt o'er top).

I must admit that our costumes were much funnier in theory than reality. Mr. Dub did make a sweet Napoleon down to his perfectly matched glasses and moon boots, but I just looked like an 80's mom, which is only a couple decades and a side ponytail removed from what I am every day. In fact, when I went to use the bathroom during the party, a few of the neighboring business folk gave me a look like, "Wow, someone still wears a fanny pack!"

And Miss Dub's mustache was funny, but she didn't look like Pedro without a black wig and bolo tie. Plus (and this is a big one), lots of the people there had never seen Napoleon Dynamite. Like, had no clue what Mr. Dub's "Vote for Pedro" shirt was all about. Which leaves me wondering if there is an age at which you tune out popular culture, or if some people are just genetically predisposed to not care about it. (And what a sad, sad life that would be. I mean, everyone should know all the words to The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme song.)

So if I ever get some pictures from his office, I'll share them with ch'alls - including pics of our yummy mini-caramel apples - but take my word that it wasn't that great, though Miss Dub might have a career in cross-dressing. I'm sure her grandmas are just beaming at the thought right now.

Oh, and happy All Saints Day! Just think of all the people who are selflessly at cemeteries today while we are selfishly battling sugar headaches.

boo! i am sOo sad. when i saw on my google reader that your blog was up, i hollered to mr. ess, "you have to check your sista's blog b-c she's posting awesome halloween costume pics." now, i'm a liar. i still love you and your fam, though. maybe you can put a new mustache on the lil' miss and just post a pic of that...

as far as knowing all the words to fresh prince, i have that one down. i also think that if you were a kid in the 90s (like 8-25), you should also know that theme song.

and as far as "not knowing napolean dynamite," there are no words to express my disappointment. maybe mr. dub should find a new job if his associates are that clueless about awesome movies... culture, really. napolean isn't just a movie anymore; it's a way of life (or something).

We went to a Halloween party and a man was dressed up as Will Farrell in the Christopher Walken 'More Cow Bell' sketch complete with a 'More Cow Bell' t-shirt. I was sad that some people didn't get it (and it was really, really hard to explain, kind of like this comment!).

And all shooting some b-ball outside of the school When a couple of guys said "we’re up in no good" Started making trouble in my neighborhood.

There's just no accounting for some people.

I guess I'll go back to bed. There is nothing more to live for today.

Stupid, stupid have-never-heard-of-Napolean-Dynomite people. They are just adding to my pain.

Now this is the story all about how my life got flip! turned upside down...

...sorry, I digressed for a moment there.

Excuse me ... that would be Napoleon, not Napolean.

Stupid disappointment fogged my brain.

Sad that we don't get to see pics! I bet it was better than you are painting the picture to be. I feel your pain when people don't get your costumes. The year I was pregnant I made my hubbie and I dress up as The Biggest Loser competitors and very few people got it. I hate that I thought we were so clever then no one appreciated it.

The "more cow bell" costume is such a good idea. I love it.

Sad about no pictures. It WAS a wonderful idea, even if it didn't turn out quite like you imagined.

I quess that you are too old for a spanking....... The old "I forgot my camera" routine can only be used once. (You have been VERY good at the photo opts. until now, so you need only a 2 minute time out. I think I'll go back to bed too.......

I think people who aren't mormon or raised in Utah like Napoleon Dynamite quite as much as the rest of us. My husbands co-workers had no clue what it was. We do know some teenagers who liked it though...maybe you do tune out popular culture when you get "older"

no pictures isn't always a bad thing. we didn't take any last night and i didn't regret it. then my sister in law put some up of us and i wished no one had seen them. but i decided to post them, being the good blogger i am.

i also just remembered that i had a dream about your blog and the pictures to come and your hair was in a ponytail on top of your head, you were wearing a blue swimsuit and gray shorts, and you were in a swimming pool, like it was summer or something. and i remember thinking 'it can't be that warm in chicago.'

it is swimming weather here, by the way. yuck.

There are a lot of people who really don't GET Napoleon Dynamite -- I mean, I'm not one of them or anything, but I'm not surprised I guess. Still sad though.

Yo homes, smell ya later.

Zeeny, that's what I thought. However, my cousins in North Dakota, sister in law in CA, and friends from back East loved Napoleon. I think the movie appealed to teenagers everywhere, but older folks not as much.

I tried, of course, to explain how Napoleon means more to people from Utah/Idaho, but they don't get that level of the movie.

My Floridian husband doesn't get Napoleon AT ALL. Then again, he didn't even know what moon boots were.

I think most US teenagers and young adults, people from or familiar with Idaho and the small town areas of surrounding states, and people from or familiar with small farming towns in the midwest all get ND, even if they miss the LDS/Inter-Mountain references and tie ins. Most adults and big city residents, particularly in the Northeast just think it's lame. Now no Halloween pics of the Dubs, that's what I call lame, but I love 'em anyway, and bet they were lots cuter than Mrs. Dub says.

I think that you just have to have a warped sense of humor(if your an adult that is) to get the whole ND thing, GOSH! We moved to Utah from Illinois, and ALL our neighbors (not Mormons) and friends LOVED the movie!! They even dressed up like the characters too, begging us to send them all the ND paraphernalia we could get our grubby little hands on! My friend made a wicked Uncle Rico, and her husband was Pedro and son was ND.

On a side note, I just stumbled across your blog... You don't know me, but I sure do LOVE reading your blog! It makes me laugh! Which is ohh. so. good.
