Change of (birthing) plans

This weekend I became a mother of three. No, I'm not expecting, nor did I kidnap two youngsters, though don't you think I should get custody of Britney's kids? I mean, is K-Fed really the best choice out there? I think Justin or I should get them.

What I did do this weekend was offer to watch my favorite shopping friend's twins for a night.

(Cue ominous music.)

(Cue ominous music to shut off because it wasn't that bad. Also, because I hate ominous music this early in the morning.)

When I mention watching the "twinnies," a few people have asked me if it made me never want to have more children. But it didn't. Instead, it sort of made me want to have twins, which is basically blasphemy since I've been posing an anti-mulitiples campaign against my uterus for several years.

First off, it dawned on me that while FSF and I have both gone through childbirth once, she gets double credit. Which means that she will likely finish up her family at least a pregnancy ahead of me, while I'm still bloated and contemplating, "Three or four?" Also, she is totally entitled to space her next child way off in the distance - like 15 years, so back off, people!

Also, twins keep each other company. While Miss Dub was whining for her bunny and picking her poop out of her diaper and throwing it in my face (seriously!!), the twins were happily hanging out with each other. In fact, in my frazzled state I may or may not have put everyone to bed a good 30 minutes early, and they happily chatted with each other for an hour while Miss Dub crankily cried from another room to join their fun.

Finally, twins are apparently less aware of their surroundings because they are so focused on each other. Because how else can I explain the fact that the female twinnie called me "Ma-ma" the entire time? I mean, FSF and I may share matching blonde bobs, but I'd hardly call us twins. One of us is skinnier and taller. And a mother to twins.

Although, she did close her eyes and scream bloody murder every time Mr. Dub got near her.

Anyway, I think I'm going to give my uterus some more options when it comes time to have another Li'l Miss or Li'l Mister. Because sitting on the couch, cuddling with three kids, felt really good, and I don't know if I can endure TWO more pregnancies to feel such joy.

But I draw the line at triplets. That's just obnoxious.

Now, come to Mama, Sean Preston!

What a great friend you are!!! Tell Mr. Dub not to be offended...Little Miss H only cries when she really likes someone. 'Cause why else would she cry when I try to hold her?

I think the idea of 2 for 1 is good, but I don't know if dh can handle me while going through the early years. yikes.

I kind of feel the same way. I used to preach the horrors of kids a year apart, but now that I see it in practice, it kind of makes sense. I must be losing my mind.

I figure get them all out at once. When the babies were 2 months old I wanted #3 because I thought "Can this get any worse?"

I love having twins. They are super easy right now.

Thanks for play mom of 3 this weekend. You are the best!

I never wished for twins... never considered that I might have them... never thought I'd have 4 kids in 3.5 years (I was a very careful planner!) but they are the absolute best! I love that they have each other, I love that they are such good buddies, I love that they are both girls but not identical, I love that they're at the end of our train so we'll never have one kid home alone... I could go on and on. As crazy as it was when they were infants and my other kids were 3.5 yrs and 21 months, looking back I wouldn't change a thing. I highly recommend twins! (It made it nice that I had a pretty good pregnancy with them; no bedrest, they were born healthy, etc.)

And yes you are a very nice friend to watch your FSF's twins :)

Oh man! NO WAY would I ever want twins. Don't get me wrong. I absolutely love my sister's twins and I think she is an amazing mom for what she was able to handle. But I couldn't do it. Nursing two babies at once, waking up at night with two babies, changing double the diapers, having to BUY double of everything ($$$), cleaning up spills and "accidents" of two... I would be a complete nightmare. I realize it gets better as they get older. But Sara hardly left the house before they were 6 months old. Again, Sara has so much patience and handled the whole thing wonderfully. She is a great example of a mom of twins. For me, NO WAY!

You're such a good friend.

As for me, I have two boys now that are close enough in age that sometimes they feel like twins (only 20 months apart!), and when I babysit another kid I about go crazy. So I'm impressed that you can do three because two is too much fun for me.

I always thought that having twins would be awesome... 2 for the price of 1! That would be awesome... Although Jamie does make some super good points about double everything... but my sister and I grew up together, only 15 months apart and we're super close! I love the bond/friendship that's there and would love for my kids to have the same! :)

Not to correct you, Jame, but I hired Brooke the nanny (she came over two afternoons each week) when the twins were 3 months old, so that's when I starting leaving the house. As for the nursing, come on, two boobs for two babies; it's perfect! I only did them simultaneously for a couple months anyway, before they got too squirmy. Nope, I wouldn't change a thing. Oh, except Hubs having back surgery when my twins were two months old. That was a little rough.

my sister in law had twins recently and they just turned 6 months old. she has a great blog, too, called littletwinhummers.blogspot.com if you'd like to see them.

she is awesome with them, but does not make me want to have twins. i have a hard enough time with one, i can't imagine two. especially thinking about the first couple months of trying to figure things out.

but, seriously, they are the cutest babies and i'm not just saying that cuz i'm related.

and, i also don't know what dh is.

I have always thought two for one would be great. Hard... but nice once they get older.

DH stands for dear husband.

I always wanted twins until I had a single baby and then I decided I must have been nuts. Now that baby #1 is almost two, I'm jumping back on the twins bandwagon! As long as one of them is a girl, I'm all about the two for the price of one.

It's tough enough when they leave home one at a time, or when you pay tuition one at a time, multiples, especially if they were your only or youngest children, would make that much more difficult. I'm all for increasing the grandchild population geometrically instead of arithmetically, but I also note that this post seems much more positive than the initial oral reports of the three under two diaper changing experience--kind of like the happy ending of an I Love Lucy episode.

I just think it's interesting that Rachie thinks twins are easy now, when most people think it's a HARD age (hence the phrase "the terrible twos") It makes me wonder: how hard WAS the first year?!!!! Yikes! :) Rach, you are my hero! Oh, I am also happy that Sean Preston and Jayden James have found a nice home... *warm fuzzies*

I always wanted twins... twin boys... well I have 2 boys that are 20 months apart and I think that is the closest I will get. The first two years were soooo... hard (I can't imagine 'real' twins ) But now they are 4 and 5 and they are the best of buds... it is great that they have eachother.
