Mr. Dub is fond of the ultra-small, sleek digital cameras. I, however, insisted that we buy something more substantial, both because I feel like size and money spent should be proportional and because I'm a bit accident prone and can only be trusted with bulkier items.
"Why do we need something that small?" I would say to him. "You can barely wrap your fingers around it to take a picture."
But over the last few days I've encountered several situations where I really wished I had a camera in my pocket to document the moment.
For example, we went to the grocery store the other day and parked across from a car filled to the brim with junk -- old bills, cartons, etc. Now, this wasn't the sad home of some unfortunate soul. This was a nice Cadillac belonging to a well-coifed older woman ... who clearly has some sort of OCD about keeping things in her car. There was only a small opening to see out the front windshield and sit in the driver's seat. It was quite humorous/sad to watch her try to find a space to put her groceries. (Which may or may not ever be relocated. Hope she skipped the perishables.) I can try to describe it to you, but you really need to see it to believe it. But my camera is too big to carry around in my purse.
Then, as we walked out of Nordstrom Rack this afternoon, we saw a car plow over two curbs and a handicapped parking sign before taking off the back of a parked car and then taking off. I'm not sure the motive, although we saw the driver and he appeared to be close to death (due to age and driving skills). It was a crazy scene to behold. Luckily, someone else got his license plate number and the police were able to catch him. One of the strangest things that has ever happened to me. (And fortunate considering if we'd walked out any sooner we would have been hit.) And it makes for a great story. But wouldn't a picture make it so much better?
So I guess I wouldn't mind a smaller camera to help illustrate those quirky moments in life and blogging.
But I'm warning you, Mr. Dub, I might drop it.

Doh -- I hadn't even factored her tinyness into my clumsy equation.
Does this mean that Sheba will be back to blogging soon?
