Freeloaders

In our new state of poverty ... well, make that an ongoing state considering the amount we'll owe when Mr. Dub becomes a Master (Of what? I'm hoping the Universe) ... we've been looking for some cheap entertainment. Enter Blockbuster Online and Netflix. Both offer free 2-week trials. We're just beginning our Netflix "subscription" but during our 14-days with Blockbuster we saw nearly a dozen movies. Not too shabby. And not very expensive at all. I mean, free is the new half-off, if you ask me. (And no one ever does.)

The only bummer is that we're now quite addicted to a constant influx of films, though we're sure to run out of options sometime soon (right?) and many of the films we're willing to rent online we'd never see in a theater or recommend to a friend. But since Baby Dub is sure to put a damper on our movie-theater-going ... which isn't much these days -- about 4 so far this year including an early-bird matinee we caught yesterday ... we figure we might have to actually fork out for a real subscription when we return to the heartland.

Which begs the question, "What service do we sign up for?" Blockbuster Online or Netflix?I'm leaning towards the former since they give you a weekly free in-store coupon in addition to your online rentals, plus the movies are easier to open along the perforated line. But does anyone have a strong opinion on this? And, more importantly, does anyone know of anyone else who offers free trials? So far, they're really paying off for us.

* And, yes, I am addicted to -- dashes (parentheses) and ellipses ... Who isn't?

it looks like you're addicted to italics, too, my dear. we use netflix, and we love it, but we've never tried blockbuster online. i think if i had a weekly coupon, i might use it to buy candy at blockbuster, which probably isn't good.
love cinema paradiso, btw!

Another free rental service trial you might try is "clean flicks". Granted each movie you watch makes no sense because it has been whittled down to 30 minutes after all of the edits, but it is free. All you can really handle is 2 weeks of that before you go crazy, so the free trial is perfect. And, the true decision between Blockbuster and Netflix is which one is cheaper??
