LOVE him. Did you ever hear of Super Diamond? http://www.superdiamond.com/
They are a Neal Diamond impersonation act. Basically, I didn't grow up the biggest fan, but my good friend in DC, her mom is a hard core fan so we went to see Super Diamond in her honor and I realized that I recognized and knew all the words to his songs. Not to mention what a character he is.
Anyway. Super Diamond is a trip b/c if you closed your eyes you would swear it was the man himself. But looking at the group--it's like 5 fake Neal Diamonds who look nothing like him. But they put on a good show (think of the costumes: every impersonator was a Neal Diamond of a different era). Plus, they had this totally AWESOME opening Band called The Leg Warmers who do nothing but 80s covers.
I secretly love him too. My mom only had a few cassettes growing up and his greatest hits was one of them. Forever in Blue Jeans, You don't bring me Flowers, etc. What can I say?
in all honesty, i couldn't name one song of his >< which leads me to say that i'm not a fan. however, i'm notorious for knowing a TON of songs and just not know who actually sings them... so I'm gonna guess I probably know his songs which would make me like him. so i'll have to get back to you on this :P
The Jazz Singer soundtrack was a major staple of in-car entertainment. At one point in my youth I noted, "Isn't it amazing that his last name is DIAMOND and he's a superstar? What a perfect name for a famous person!" and someone told me, "Oh come on Sara, he wasn't born with that name - most famous people change their names." BUT - I just looked it up on wikipedia and he was indeed born a Diamond!! Does the fact that I'm giddy with excitement over this make me a fan?
love him! my parents took me to his concert when I was in 9th grade...not the way I imagined I would spend a Friday night when I was 14, but it is now one of my favorite memories.
Sweet Soolaimon, how I love the Diamond. You think the Christmas album is funny--how about Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show? I get the rivalist shakes just thinking about it. As Mary referenced, any ND tunes conjure up tons of childhood memories. Also, one of my fave BYU roomies was from a family where all the girls were brilliantly named after ND songs (Holly, Shiloh, etc., but no Cherry, which is unfortunate.) Great HTT.
I liked what little I knew of him, until a few years ago when I went to a "Legends" type performance with impersonators, and the Neil Diamond impersonator sang straight to me during all of his songs. It really creeped me out and made me never want to sit next to the stage again. I know it wasn't the real guy, but it scarred me forever. I'd still listen to him on the radio though.
guilty as charged... He turns on my heart light! AND Yes. I do love Barry Manilow. He rocks! So glad you're back. Even though I don't know you... reading your blog makes me think we are friends. Thanks for the hours of entertainment!
Love him. Kate for the record that is MY Neil Christmas album! There is not a single college bar night out that didn't involve 'Sweet Caroline' or other Neil tributes (and there were a lot of them).
i grew up with my dad singing Neil and I do LOVE him. My dad used to sing "Melinda was mine til the time that I found her, holding Jim, loving him..." so on and so forth. There are other musicians I like due to the fact that my parents listened to them..such as the Carpenters and Lionel Richie. and CCR. and the Belamy Brothers and the Righteous Brothers...I could go on. but, yes, I love Neil Diamond. However, I do not love that picture of him.

Please ... you know you have that in your blood because we listened to him at home and in the car on every trip to UT and CA.
Now ... I expect the same for my Miss Dub, so don't shirk your parental duties.

I appreciate your "What about Bob?" lingo. I am a big fan of Neil Diamond. How can you not love "Coming to America" while watching fireworks?

Love him. I have been to one of his concerts and I fell apart.
The question is...do you like Barry Manilow? Because I do.

So glad you are back! Missed the blogging!
Love!
sorry, I'm in the other camp. I do not like Neil Diamond, prob. because my parents didn't listen to him so I was never really exposed to his music.
Love. I went to his concert on one of my first real dates at age 16.

My children sing along to every word of every song....it's like a revival in here some days.
I am, I said, a Neil Diamond fan.
Sweet Caroline am I ever!
"my ex-wife loves him."
loved the bob shout out.
Love him!! Often hear commin to America in my mind!!
I'm on the fence on this one. No love, no hate. Though with chest hair like that, who could resist such a man?
I like him in moderation... and I strongly dislike the Christmas Album my DH loves it... so I hide it every year.
LOVE LOVE LOVE! I used to make up dances to his songs by myself on my front porch as a little tot. Nothin' gets my blood goin' like a little Neil.
Love him. Kate for the record that is MY Neil Christmas album! There is not a single college bar night out that didn't involve 'Sweet Caroline' or other Neil tributes (and there were a lot of them).
There ain't a Diamond I don't like.
