The good, the bad and the possibly painful

The good news: The baby is doing great and measuring right-on for a 4th o' July delivery. Pass the sparklers!

The bad news: I have a low-lying placenta, which probably caused my bleeding and pain the other night. Oh, and NINE cysts in my left ovary and one in my right.

No word on what any of this means, but my doc left me a message yesterday saying that "things are obviously much better than we had originally thought."

Funny, I was kind of thinking the whole NINE cysts thing was pretty bad.

Does this mean I can whine more? 'Cause as I've said, I have a high tolerance for pain but a low tolerance for discomfort.

Speaking of that, any Zofran users out there? I'm thinking of upgrading my nausea meds.

I am the queen of anti-emetic use while pregnant. Zofran was wonderful for my first pregnancy. When I got it, it made me feel better, at least for the first pregnancy. During the 2nd one we tried phenergan, compazine, reglan, B-6 and half of a unisom....nothing worked.
Looks like you will have to take it easy with the low lying placenta. How good to know what the problem is now, good luck.

Well, the good news is very good so YAY for that! So sorry about the bad news but hope that now that you know you can take comfort in knowing what is going on with your body and your doctor knowing what to lookout for.

Zofran is a lifesaver! No side effects, at least for me. If your insurance will cover it, it's definitely worth looking into.

They say cysts are usually no big deal right? Glad the baby's a-okay. Thank goodness for modern medicine.

They said that I had the low lying placenta as well which could be the cause of spotting at 14 weeks. I read a lot about it on babycenter.com and also the doctor and technician explained that if I was about to deliver it would be a big concern. But your placenta will naturally move back as the pregnancy goes along and and your uterus grows. It's actually not that uncommon and they just have to watch it once you are 30+ weeks. Thats all my words of wisdom - good luck!

nine cysts?! my goodness...your babies are flat out miracles.

and you know my feelings on zofran (or ondasetron the generic). why live in misery when it can all go away with one tiny pill.

Oh my goodness! I can't tell you how much Zofran means to me. I am always trying to tell people about it. It saves me. I love it so much.

During my first pregnancy, I didn't have it. My doc didn't recommend it and when I would come in every month for prenatal check ups and I would tell him my vomitting horror stories and he saw that I was losing weight, he just said, "The nausea will pass." He gave me several things to try, including horrible anal suppositories that did absolutely nothing. I don't think he knew that I was puking 10+ times per day, having to come in to work late and leave very early, carrying plastic bags in my car and using them very frequently, puking at friends houses and in parking lots, and basically ripping my throat apart. I became an expert in what I couldn't eat, not because it made me sick, but because I knew what really HURT coming back up. It was awful and lasted until I was about 24 weeks.

When I got pregnant with my second, I had heard about Zofran and requested it early on. It was an absolute life saver. I didn't feel great, but I kept everything down. Or at least would only throw up once or twice a day. Even with my insurance, I still paid about $2 per pill, but it was worth every penny. I also used it with my 3rd pregnancy. I still have a few leftover that don't expire until 2009. Yeah, they are like gold to me.

So you should get it. I had no side effects at all. And after taking it every day for about 5 months with 2 pregnancies, both kids were perfectly healthy. Seriously. Go get some, now.

Sheesh... sorry about that bad news. But yay for the good news!
I got Zofran (or the generic) for my 3rd pregnancy, and I only had to take it every other day or so. It totally helped... made me feel almost completely fine. I also took a unisom every night for pretty much the whole pregnancy.
In any case, best wishes for a long, healthy pregnancy and a healthy bebe numero dos.

You are talking to the cyst queen here and let me assure you, it ain't good (for your comfort , at least the baby is comfy cozy!) I tried IVF whilst riddled with cysts and wondered what would have happened had I gotten pregnant. I'm curious to see what your Dr. does??? I hope things are complication free from here on out!

Love Zofran. LOVE IT! Get it and your life will be great! It saved me and Mia when I was pgs with Isabel (I wasn't sick with Mia).

Go for the Zofran if your insurance will let you. It is the only way I survived my pregnancy with my son. The cyst thing is not that big of a deal, they will just watch them to see if they change during your pregnancy. And maybe laser them later. good luck with everything.

Glad to hear that the baby will be OK, sorry about the painfulness of the cysts. I know they HURT! Boy, just got done reading and commenting about your hot topic yesterday. Boy, are you a trouble maker!!!! HA-HA

Erin S. in our ward had placenta previa with her second - I bet she would be happy to answer any questions or share her experience. But hopefully the placenta will move up (hers did not, so she had a c-section). I hope you feel better soon!!

Zofran either does wonders or nothing! If your insurance will pay for it... try it out for sure! (even if it won't... if you are one of those lucky people who are only sick the first trimester... it's probably worth the investment.) Others of us have to go the I.V. and phenergan to knock us out route. Who would have guessed I'd do this 4 times!

I don't toss cookies much when pregnant, but have you tried those Preggie Pops they have at Motherhood? I used those my first pregnancy, and they were yummy and very helpful with nausea. And they basically just use sugar.
