That's, like, 11 hours, kids!

Last night, I went to bed at 7:45 p.m.

I mean, when is the last time I did that - when I was four years old?

We've been re-struggling with Miss Dub, who has decided post-vacations and illnesses to wake up even earlier than her standard 6 a.m. awakening. Like, 4:30 a.m. To-tally awake! And ready to watch TV, as she's become quite the connoisseur thanks to her early awakenings. (I know, I'm a bad mom, but what else can I really do with her at that hour? Finger painting just seems complicated in the dark.)

To curb the fatigue that's come from such early risings - and to help heal a raging headache - I went to "lie down" for a little primetime snooze. Well, I didn't wake up again until 2, at which point I was WIDE AWAKE. Thankfully, I managed to fall in and out of sleep for several more hours ... until 6:45 a.m.

And guess what? Miss Dub managed to do it, too - I heard her rustle, talk and even cry a little, but she took one for the team and kept sleeping ... and on the one day I wouldn't have minded waking up at 4:30!

Needless to say, I'm going to bed a little later tonight. Like, 8:30 p.m.

But if she does wake up early tomorrow, any suggestions on the least annoying kids' show out there? 'Cause Backyardigans is the best I've found so far, though I find myself "stomping that Yeti stomp" in my head hours later.

And seriously, what's the most annoying show? I'm going to say Boobah. Pretty sure that one is based on a producer's acid trip.

I don't know, the Doodlepops are pretty scary. Glad you got to catch up on you sleep. And you are not a bad mom, kids that get up that early deserve the TV.

ooohhh...how familiar I am with this...My daughter is 21 months and has just decided that 5am is a great time to wake up.

Dont feel bad about the cartoons, I think many moms do it and dont admit it.

I do it and am more sane because of it. She lays in my bed watching Jo Jo's circus and other annoying cartoons and I block them all out and doze, its a great compromise.

Its sad now because when she wakes up, the first thing I hear from the monitor is "cartoons on momma"
sad sad sad...but it works for us right now.

and if that makes me a bad mom...well then so be it. I have not seen any negative affects of the early morning cartoon activities. She's ahead developementally, talks pretty clearly non stop, and just an all around well adjusted child.

Sorry for all the rambling

every kid deserves fond memories of early morning cartoons. :)

mine were transformers and my little ponies. random. anyway... no idea on the most annoying or least annoying. i get annoyed with pretty much all of them nowadays. i should probably get over that huh? :)

maybe they sell the box set of ducktales... pretty much the greatest cartoon series ever. besides, the simpsons... but i'm pretty sure you're not eager to hear miss dub say "eat my shorts".

and your not a bad mom. stop it. how many times do we have to tell you we all want to be you!? ;)

i can't take 'the wiggles' but gracie thinks they are hilarious so i use them randomly.

the least annoying show for me is Sesame Street because it's filled with learning and you can buy it on dvd. plus it's an hour and not just one thing going on the whole time.

as we only have PBS, gracie has to like Sesame Street, Clifford, Super WHY!, and Curious George. you can't go wrong with PBS.

When I was a babysitting teenager, I formed an enormous hatred for Barney. I don't even know if he is on anymore, but he was still on when my 6 year old was little. When the show would come on, she knew that she had to very quickly turn it off before I got the stupid theme song stuck in my head for the rest of the day and that dumb, big purple dinosaur voice! Ugh! I know...I have some issues.

My kids love just about any show, but I am trying to get them to watch Sesame Street more now that my 16-month-old is starting to watch TV. You just can't beat that cool gang of monsters and muppets!

ooooooh, i don't know much about kids' shows, but i do know that the doodlebops are annoying. i'm quite the connoisseur on pre-teen and teenage television, though, so when she gets there, i'm totally down for watching the latest disney channel originals!

i never seemed to mind barney... yeah he's annoying and the songs get stuck in your head BUT he always has some good moral being taught. and when babysitting... you can always throw out... remember how barney taught us to share?!?! it's awesome lol.

i'm with steph again... pre-teen disney shows im totally down for. HSM was the greatest! and i love hannah montana! lol

Yo Gabba Gabba is the weirdest, most ridiculous piece of garbage on children's programming. How did it get past the viewer testing, I'd like to know.

Is Sesame Street still around? Your eldest sister was raised on it in large portions because in those days no one frowned on that. And I am happy with how she turned out.

And I am certainly happy with my Miss Dub!

p.s. glad you got lots of shut-eye!

My kid likes 'Dora' and I find my self singing the little ditties with her. Plus, I kinda like that it exposes her to the Spanish language.

Best: SuperWhy, Backyardigans, Dora, Pinky Dinky Doo, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Little Einsteins

Worst, in no particular order: Teletubbies, Yo Gabba Gabba, Its a Big World, Calliou, Barney, Wiggles, Doodlebops

And Mrs. Dub, my daughter (4) wakes me up and I send her downstairs and she turns the TV on herself and watches for a half hour to an hour, before her dear mother rolls out of bed.

Since Captain Kangaroo, Bozo the Clown, and Skipper Frank, from my childhood, and Electric Company and Mr. Rogers (along with Sesame Street) from my children's don't seem to work into the conversation, I've got nothing...except one great granddaughter (even when tired, pouty, and in rabbit-clinging mode)...who, in turn, has a great Mom (even when placating her child with a little TV).

We LOVE Baby Einetein DVD's. I have spent many a night sleeping on the couch with my little one awake in my arms or playing on the floor by me. Baby Beethoven and Baby Motzart are so great for younger babies and the music is relaxing--It put us both asleep. Now that he is older (almost 2) he loves the numbers, shapes, colors and animals. Seriously could not have survived these 2 years without them.

I don't get what's up with Yo Gabba Gabba but my kids have seen it a few times & for some reason love it. It's bizarre. And we have a ban on Doodlebops. Ick.

I like Backyardigans for the very catchy tunes - which are also great for listening to in the car; and Little Einsteins because now my kids commonly (and correctly) use terms like allegro around the house and they recognize famous classical melodies when they hear them in other settings. That's very fun for me, as a musicky person.

I remember laying on the couch as the kids watched some tv, falling asleep and waking up in panic to see all of them still just sitting there fine. You've got to catch the rest when you can. I do think that "Thats so Raven" is hilarious. She reminds me of Brooke's funny humor and of Sis. Dinnell's fun sarcastic self. I only wish I were that quik and witty. Take care of my little miss dub's Mom, she'll be fine...

Just have to say- I love the Backyardigans and have all their stuffed toys which my kids covet.

Love the Backyardigans, Arthur, Super Why, and Clifford.

Can't stand Cailou...he is so whiny!

I love the wonder pets. The first episode I saw was about a puppy having to "pee pee". We watched it like 15 times and I laugh so hard every time. The voices are adorable. I love the Backyardigans (isn't that the Irish cow or something). I can't think of another decent one. We dig baby einstein too.

I happened to have the similar sleep schedule this week - and at one morning at 2:30 am I configured and ordered my Christmas cards online. When I woke up I was kind of scared of what I'd done - but they turned out okay.

Definitely Baby Einstein. The music is soothing enough to put you both back to sleep. And who knows maybe the babies are really learning something?

By the way...the organization that stated that children should watch absolutely NO TV until age 2 never had an toddler wake at 4:30 in the morning. I don't know that I would have survived without TV on many early mornings and tired afternoons.

Worst shows: Doodlebops, Lazy Town, Yo Gabba Gabba, Dora, Diego, and many more actually.

Best shows: Charlie & Lola, Little Einsteins, Backardigans(Castaways is the best one I've heard, and find myself singing the songs hours later as well!

Is Bigfoot True or mock? For over 400 years, there happen to be reporting’s of a man like beast that is certainly absolutely covered in hair.
