but my favorite mexican is this little dive in orem, ut called "mama chu's". it's on 800 north at the mouth of provo canyon. mmmmm. can't wait to get back there and have some.
Growing up in AZ I was used to delicious Mexican food all over, but here in Utah, it is slim pickings. The best I have found is Jalisco's in American Fork. It's run by a little Mexican family and it is authentic and wonderful! They even have a pan dulce!
But it seems like I will need to try this Mama Chu's establishment as well...
The Reg Iguana is fabu and I also love the Rio...cafe rio that is...but I am not sure if it would really be considered mexican but whatever it is...I like it.
Huggies on both counts, though Pampers are fine by me too, if they're on sale or I have a coupon.
I haven't found my favorite Mexican place in SLC yet (anyone?). Have a soft spot for Los Hermanos in Provo, though I know it's a little cliche. There are days when Beto's is just cheap and greasy and yummy.
Diapers: Whitecloud wal-mart brand. Can't beat em. Wipes: Huggies and I ONLY like Huggies. Once I got some no-name brand at the dollar store. BIG MISTAKE. CAFE RIO. Miss it. Miss it bad.
Pampers, all the way. 2 of my 3 little ladies have sensitive skin. They get diaper rashes and heat rashes VERY easily. I tried every kind of diaper to try and fix their problems. Pampers diapers and Pampers sensitive wipes made a difference. So now I am hooked.
huggies for diapers & wipes. i used to love the costco brand for wipes, but they changed the wipes, and it's just not the same.
as for mexican food, ca is crawling with places. lately we've been frequently a little dive down the street. i don't even know the name, how sad. but they have the best tacos. oh... there is also chronic taco... not exactly authentic, but good!
i canNOT believe i forgot about the red iguana... thank you laurel, for bringing me back to reality. YES... red iguana is definitely the best mexican in utah. still love mama chu's (so still check it out ac)... but red iguana wins for sure.
I swear by White Cloud diapers, too. They're the cheapest diapers around and they DO NOT LEAK! Also, Costco wipes rule. Mexican food...I miss Carlos O'Briens, Restuarant Mexico and Carolina's in Phoenix. Mexican food doesn't exist where I live now. So sad.
After a long and drawn out Huggies test, we switched to Pampers and never looked back. It may be because my dude has a bit-o-booty (possibly my fault) but Huggies didn't fit him right. I tried Luvs once on a friend's recommendation — DISASTER. Twice. So I took those right back to the store. Did you know you can return diapers?
For wipes: Pampers or Huggies but NOT Costco brand
Mexican: Reg Iguana rules. But for hole-in-the-wall in Utah County, Mama Chu's and Mi Rancherito are my faves. Good call Janaya.
Can't really comment on the diaper thing . . . I used cloth for all four of mine and the memories are just too ghastly to dwell on.
As for wipes . . . do you mean toilet paper? 'Cause if you do, I prefer Cottonelle.
As for Mexican food, I live right in the heart of it (AZ)but I prefer mine in Mrs. Gee's town.
Wahoo's Fish Tacos. (I think that qualifies as Mexican food, does it not?) The funny thing is . . . I do NOT want that chain to come to AZ -- it would totally ruin it for me.
Diaps: Pampers because they smell good. I have had success wtih Huggies too; for some of my kids they have fit better. Wipes: Love Costco. Can't figure out why some people here are anti. Mex: Have always loved Macayos - except they give you an extra-strong dose of onion breath from the salsa afterwards. Still love it but I also love Abuelo's, and On the Border.
As for Red Iguana, I confess I enjoy the greasy, warm tortilla chips, but their food just tastes dirty to me. Just hot for the sake of being hot, not deliciously spicy, if that even makes any sense at all. I recognize mine is an unpopular opinion ‘round SLC, but that’s ok because as an actual Mexican, (or at least ¼ of one), I feel I can choose to be selective of the food of my people. :o) And I will definitely check out this Mama Chu’s at the earliest opportunity and I am grateful for the tip! And really, I recommend Jalisco’s…down by the Alpine Tabernacle on State St in AF.
huggies diapers huggies supreme quilted wipers - these use to be the best but they changed them a little... hello, macayos for here. i know you can't get enough of that hot sauce. wahoos, yes please.
DIAPERS: Huggies or pampers, but i don't really like sesame street.
WIPES: Huggies, thicker and softer
Mexican Food: That's a hard one because I am from Southern California and we have the best Mexican Food ever... So in UT I'd have to say Lonestar in SLC. and in CA - Taco Mesa!
Does anyone else find it strange that you asked about diapers, wipes, and mexican food?
DIAPERS: Pampers Swaddlers! And I just found them at Target in size 2-3. I was so happy because I'm not ready to switch her to Cruisers just yet!
WIPES: Huggies Shea Butter! Emma has a very sensitive bum and the Costco wipes just tore her up. Switched to Huggies and won't go back!
MEXICAN FOOD: Freddie's Tacos at Captain Tony's (It's an Italian Food place.....but they sell tacos, weird, I know!). I kid you not....these tacos are the best I've ever had!
i can't speak on the first two counts yet. clearly, i'm looking for your advice before coming to a conclusive decision.
but when i'm in AZ - it's Macayo's for Mexican food all the way. my SILs are still craving the stuffed peppers they had at our rehearsal dinner. but you must request the hot salsa/sauce.
here? slimmer pickin's. but in evanston we loved that little mexican cafe. seriously. that's the name.
Evil Knievel at Caesar's Palace Fountain...no that's a wipeout...Rose Mary Woods and 18 1/2 minutes of Watergate tape...that's a wipe
Macayo's for chips and salsa and cheese enchiladas, Carolina's for anything using a flour tortilla, and Rosa's for their tomatillo salsa and seasfood dishes; Wahoo's isn't real Mexican (hey, three Asians started it), but I could live on their rice, beans, and green sauce
Since my husband works for Huggies--I have to say Huggies on both---but I really agree that they are the best. And as American as this is---Love Bajio's.
It must have to do with the gender and shape of your kid. I have to agree, H&H. I liked Pampers when I had Hannah, but by the time I had Ali, 3 years later they'd changed their "formula" and they now feel like they've got something "gritty" in them and the smell that emanates after they urinate in them makes the pregnant me SICK. (I think it's the baby powder they put in them, I guess it's supposed to smell good, but I don't like it).
Pappasito's is good, but I really like this little dive by LBJ hospital that David took me to once. And Cafe Rio, is my FAV.
As for Mexican food, I do believe I am an expert because it's basically the only food I eat. So I could list a brazillian places but I'll just name a few.
SLC. Lonestar (Fort Union &2000 East) P Town. I lived there for 9 years and never found a fabulous one. The OC. Fred's is my fave right now because we go every Tuesday night for Taco Tuesday and they have fabulous Mahi Mahi tacos and steak fajitas. But Wahoo's will always have a place in my heart. And I just found an amazing place called Javier's in Laguna. They have the best carne asada salad.
Anyway, 1. Costco diapers. With daughter #1 huggies would get SO soggy, and I swear I changed her reguarly. The little silicone beads would come out, at least that's what I think it was. So we switched to Costco and have never looked back. Still works with daughter #2.
2. Costco wipes. They are SO soft and I like that they are unscented.
Not that you need anymore comments...but I just thought I would put my 2 cents in.
1. I use Target Brand diapers. Living the student life, I decided to start with the cheapest and if they worked then I wouldn't be spoiled by the expensive diapers and wouldn't know what I was missing. I tried Huggies, but my babies legs were too skinny so they leaked out the legs. Sad, I know but I can't seem to fatten her up.
2. Kirkland wipes. They are great, they are cheap and like Mandee says you can have a package at hand everywhere you go!
3. I love love love mexican food and miss Tia Rosa's in Mesa everyday. Love Cafe Rio and now that I live in Las Vegas I am excited to try this Macaya's. Oh and Mama Chu's is a good deal but not the best Mexican Food ever. Just good to me.
Mrs. Dub, here's my thoughts about diapers: they catch pee and poop; so start with the cheapest brand first ( we used the generic Wal Mart brand, I think they're called White Cloud and they were perfectly fine for retaining waste at half the price of Huggies, Pampers, and other big name diapers. If the cheap-o's don't work for you, try the next up on the price-o-meter. I don't know about you, but for me, when money is an issue, I'd rather have an extra 25 dollars a month in the "fun fund" rather than the deluxe diaper fund. So, I say start cheap and if it works great, if not, try something else. And wipes, I'm all about the unscented cheapest ones. My son never had any skin sensitivity issues, though, and I know that can get tricky. Best Mexican? I don't know what's the best, but I do know that I am always in the mood for a Cafe Rio Pork Salad.
Holy Cow...I clearly missed a HOT topic. I've used a different diaper for each kid. Like someone said, find the one that works best for the cheapest price. My son we used Pampers, My daughter we used Huggies and I use the generic pull-ups for potty training. Christina's is hands down the best local Mexican food. I could eat there every day of my life and die happy.
P.S. Someday I will blog about the fight I got into at Rosa’s in Provo with a stupid waitress. I forgot to mention Las Tarascas in Provo near the Diagonal.
I don't usually comment, but I must say, G diapers are the absolute best. They hardly ever leak, and they're dang cute. You can find them at Whole Foods, and they're really not much more expensive than disposables. They have a cloth outside and a dissolve-in-the toilet inside, and that mights sound like a toilet clogging nightmare, but it's not. And they're also way less work than strictly cloth. They're really awesome. Target should really think about carrying them. Look 'em up at gdiapers.com. I'm definitely a fan.

Unfortunately I don't think Georgia is a Mexican food hot spot. If someone else knows better let me know!!

I must agree that good mexican food is much easier to find in AZ than in ID. In Las Vegas the best is Macayo's. YUM!

PAMPERS! Never had a blow out, like we seem to have with Huggies could be the luck of the draw. I supose.
Huggies, love the new cucumber melon scent, so does kalle!
azteca ... love the homemade tortilla press going on.
Diapers: Pampers before 6 months, and whatever is cheap after solid food is introduced
Wipes: Huggies 100%
Mexican Food: Rosa's

For boys- Huggies, or Kirkland. Pampers don't trap boy pee so well.
Wipes- Kirkland, because they are cheap, and you can have a package of them in everyroom.
Mexi Food? If Cafe Rio doesn't count, I would say good ol' Los Hermanos, or Cafe Pierpont in SLC.
I will be trying Mama Chu's, and where is Red Iguana?

-cafe rio de janeiro do copa cabana (is it considered mexican food or manna from heaven?)
p.s. i heard red iguana was the bomb.com too. we haven't been there yet.

Javiers in LB isvery good. Long wait to get in, long time to get served, but really good food.
First time comment for me here...kinda nervous.
Anyway,
1. Costco diapers. With daughter #1 huggies would get SO soggy, and I swear I changed her reguarly. The little silicone beads would come out, at least that's what I think it was. So we switched to Costco and have never looked back. Still works with daughter #2.

3. Rosa's. We are sad they left Provo.

Huggies for diapers and Target for wipes! They have a new kind and I LOVE them.
I'm with Jenny--
El Azteca & Maria Bonita. I REALLY miss Cafe Del Sol. I'm not a Mama Chu's fan; they're a 6 out of 10.
P.S. Someday I will blog about the fight I got into at Rosa’s in Provo with a stupid waitress. I forgot to mention Las Tarascas in Provo near the Diagonal.
