Question: How many trips to Target in one week is too many?
'Cause I think my enthusiasm might start to wane the fourth time ... slightly.
(Fun fact: I once went to Target THREE times in one day.)
What is it about T-Town that we loOoVe so much?
(Fun fact: Mr. Dub doesn't understand the purpose of the capital "O" in loOoVe.)

i've been twice this week, which almost never happens. i feel silly and embarrassed if i go that much. plus, i think the number of children in the car with me proportionately diminishes the number of times i venture into an actual store. it's such a pain. even target isn't worth it.
can someone explain target to someone not from the states? is it like a wal-mart? How is it not like a wal-mart?
This summer I lived in a town whose closest Target was an hour away. I think I only went there 3 times the whole summer. However, now that I'm back, I've been about once a week, and I'm already planning a for a 2nd time today.
In fact, I received an online Target coupon for baby food from a friend on Tuesday. Yu could use it as many times as you needed to. I ended up saving $16 on the $30 worth of baby items. Not a bad gig!
for anonymous:
target is a like walmart in that it is a chain store that carries a variety of items - household goods, electronics, clothing, food, media, automotive supplies, etc. - at inexpensive prices.
it is not like walmart in that its product lines are more modern and fashionable.
other notable differences are that target doesn't smell, the staff is actually responsive, aisles are clean and organized and the products don't look stuck in the 1990s.
however, there are no greeters at target. unless you count me.
I don't think you can go too many times in a week! It's seriously the greatest store! Although, it's easy for me to go multiple times in a week because I'm not carting around any kiddies. But I still fully enjoy going... even if I don't need anything! Ha!
Just wait til school starts...I will be there OFTEN!
My target is about 10 minutes away (too far away in my book) so - I get there once every few weeks- and although I love it... it always seems to be picked over...(we need another one in SLC- Holladay would be nice!)My favorite part is the stationary! Every time I go I have to peruse- and I always find something I love.
When I lived in Utah I LOVED SuperTarget (the ultimate one-stop shopping) and went several times a week. Now that I'm in Los Angeles the Target trips have seriously diminished (about once a month). First, it's kind of far. Second, it's a little ghetto. Third, since it's the only Target in a ten mile radius in an overpopulated part of town, it is crowded, chaotic and often out of the items I want (including a parking space). LA Targets do, however, have "greeters." Sure, they're technically armed security guards, but they always say "hi" when you enter and check your receipt when you leave.
Thanks Mrs. Dub, the target/wal-mart delineation is very helpful. I've heard people talk about target, and i've always been curious about it.
It was like when i was first familiar with the Gap and then Old Navy came on the scene, and then got familiar with that and H & M came to town... there was about 6 months where i was trying to explain the H & M phenomena to people. Enjoy your target!
I think 3/wk for me would be pushing it. There's a new-ish SuperTarget that I love to go to, but it's about 15 minutes away so I don't go there often.. but having groceries combined with Target is like a dream come true, so I'll still go there once a month or so. All the other Targets close to me are "regular" ones & I go about once a week.
I really have a problem with Walmart & limit my trips there to once or twice a year. In my family we alternately refer to this condition as "Walmart issues" or "Walliphobia."
this week i've been three times. love it, never get tired of it. i love the $1 popcorn combo. that's right for the small price of $1 i can get each of my kids their own small popcorn and small drink. if i really feel like splurging i can pay an extra 20 cents and get them an icee instead. small price to pay to keep their mouths quiet.
I must live near Katie (northern part of Salt Lake Valley) because our Target isn't nearly close enough for my happiness. It's a good 15 minute drive -- maybe 20. They are building a Chipotle next to it right now, so that may make the trip a little more worthwhile. Who do we call about getting a Target in Salt Lake City?
I've been once and want to go again. There is a brand new HUGE one that I just can't get enough of...and they are 4 in my town alone!! Love it!!
Sara, I'm with you: Wal*Mart scares me.
I could easily go to Target twice a week. My pocketbook could not.
i'm not gonna lie. i'm an anti-walmart girl. i said it. i LOVE target. i make it a point to shop at target even if i have to pay a little extra for some things b/c i refuse to shop at walmart. oh, and walmart truly does smell. it's amazing to me how each of their stores has a distinct and awful scent.
I must live by Katie and Liz... seems like we all hit the 7200 S Target. We do need more Target and LESS Wal*Mart in SLC. But even though I wish it were closer, I find myself there at least twice a week.
Walliphobia issues can be partially overcome by using the self check out.
I haven't been nearly all summer (okay like a month), I live in the vicinity of Katie and possibly Liz and anonymous2, near Foothill and 21st where they are planning a new walmart, (parley's). If I knew who to talk to I would've definitely begged for a target there, but then I definitely would not be able to pay for my kids' college ;). My first thoughts were target is so great because it is clean and organized and light and marketed perfectly to naive spenders like myself who think they need everything in there! And then have to drop off a bag full of stuff at D.I. every other week. I have issues. But trust me Target is my #1, which is why the self-imposed summer ban.
Targets in rough neighborhoods still look and feel better than Wal-Marts in good neighborhoods. Apparently you can take the store out of the Ozarks but you can't take the Ozarks out of the store. Sorry Bentonville, you may have more millionaires per capita (mostly named Walton) than Roseville, but not half as much class. Targets don't sell guns a few aisles from the babyfood, while Wal-Mart is the top seller of firearms. Targets don't sell tobacco products, while State AG's had to pressure Wal-Mart to stop selling to minors. Neither distinquishes itself by its international trade policies or employment practices or big box land uses, but Target is consistently among the most philanthropic companies by percentage of income. Of course, if you prefer little pac-man price eater thingies over red-themed pop art commercials, you'd best get your shots and stick with Wal-Mart. For me and mine, let's go buy something fun...at Target.
I feel like a walking Target ad half of the time. My clothes and my little girl's clothes come from Target and I love it. It is a good date night activity too. I am pathetic but I love it and I can't explain why.
I go to Target when I need to relax. When it's been a rough day with the kids, and I just need a moment to myself. Sometimes, I don't buy anything. Just being there is enough to relax me.
But my Target isn't a SuperTarget. And I really wish it were. I have thought about just making the trip to SuperTarget once a week, because it just makes me so happy. But I rarely find the time to do that. But seriously, it doesn't get any better than SuperTarget!
And yes- the clothes there are great! Handbags, and jewelry too. In fact, I also picked up some really great snacks and cilantro lime rice from the Archer Farms line. Delicious!
...also, it's because the aisles are wide and the packaging is divine.
Target is routinely ruined for me by small boys who either stay by the cart attempting to tip it over, or run like cheetahs on steroids through the aisles.
When they get an Ikea-esqe play area for the small ones, I'll be there daily. That's a promise.
i haven't been in a while (can you believe it!) but i plan on making at least 1 or 2 trips this week.
Ummm... I doubt you'll see this but the ONE thing I don't LoOoOoVe about Target is their HORRID return policy. Like as of Aug 8th...if you want to return an item worth more than $20 that you don't have a receipt for, TOO BAD... you can't even get store credit for it! Whaaat?
