Sometimes when the day comes to a close, I think to myself, “What did I do today?”
And I realize that all I did was play with Miss Dub, although the laundry does get done sometimes, too.
Yesterday, we perused our iTunes library and found some songs to the Miss’ liking. (Jay-Z was high on her list, interestingly.) Then, I tried to make a music video with Miss Dub as the star. (Her rhythm is great, but we need to work on her lip-synching.)
Sometimes we workout together – and might I say that a baby makes for great resistance when doing stomach crunches. Sometimes we talk about important issues like the war in Iraq and this season’s fashions. (And how we both think the ankle boot won’t last.)
Then, there’s tummy time. There’s reading time. There’s bouncer time. There’s play gym time – although if the TV is on, she’ll wiggle herself so she can watch it. (And is it bad that I sometimes let her?)
Throw in some naps and lots of milk, and you’ve got a typical day for Miss Dub and me.
But somehow I feel like I should be doing more. I feel like her days are too repetitive --because despite all the quirky fun we have, most of her day is spent in my arms or lying on a blanket. And after letting her do either of those for more than 15 minutes, I feel guilty.
What do you do with your babies (or pets or gregarious plants, as the case may be)?

Any ideas for things we could do with our day?
(If it helps, Miss Dub is currently fond of sucking, sleeping, smiling, standing and farting.)

i often think these same thoughts, but really, all your baby wants is you. miles is most happy when my face is about 3 inches from his and i'm being ridiculously silly. he lives for that. and milk. so, don't feel guilty. at least you don't have to periodically ignore her crying and leave her in an exersaucer for upwards of 25 minutes to tend to a 5 and 3 year old. that comes later. :)
maybe you should teach her how to braid hair and give back massages. then you can take a load off - it sounds like you are doing everything (and more) that you should be. take it easy dear friend. i'm with leslie, take advatage of the fact that you can spend all your time just on her.
Yep, I was actually thinking you do way too much already. If you're feeding her and changing her you're doing plenty!!!
there is plenty of time later for playing and reading and HAVING to go outside and do things. right now, i'm sure little miss dub is happy just to smell you. hey, if she's not crying, she's great...babies don't know how to fake things yet. you sound like you're going above and beyond the call of mommyhood.
dear wonderful women of words, did you know 'play' is an amazing word, as in ". . . all i did was play". if play is all you ever do with miss dub each day she will be a happy, as well as a bright baby. routine is another power word and will give girl dub security and a place to go from. so, no more guilt. celebrate, you are a fantastic mom!!! idea: check the library out. there may be books where you can select a few new play time ideas [things get to simplistic for you] "How to Raise A Brighter Child" may be out of print but it had a few innovative sugestions for daddy dub and you know how happy and bright he is - yeah
