Bloggers of the World - Unite and Take Over

Miss Dub raises her hand for Blogger boldness

Blogging is the new TV.

Seriously, as a new mother with oodles of time stuck inside, both due to the weather and a napping infant – I find myself more drawn to the computer than to the television. Mostly, I find myself looking at blogs. Not just my own, although I am embarassed to admit that I check my blogs several times a day, sometimes to look for new comments but mostly to stare at my own daughter’s cute pictures when she’s napping and I start to miss her. I have lots of good friends who have blogs, thanks to Mrs. Sea who started our social circle’s blogging revolution. But I have them all programmed into my Google Reader, which lets me know when they post something new so that I don’t have to disappoint myself by incessantly checking for new stuff.

So when I’m really bored and no one has posted anything, I start to randomly click on links to other people’s blogs. (And on their links … and their links … and their links.)

Case in point: I’ve been reading this gal’s blog for almost a year. Granted, she’s not a total stranger. She’s my former roommate’s sister’s best friend. She’s also my sister’s former roommate’s best friend. She’s also my mom’s former roommate’s daughter. And she once lived in a house in a ward that I later grew up in. (And the house was bought by a man who later divorced his wife and went on to marry Mrs. Jay’s aunt.)

Got that?

But despite these connections and the fact that I read her innermost musings, I never acknowledged my presence – until the other day.

And it felt good to come clean. After all, shouldn’t a writer know her audience?

So I hereby declare today National Blogger Pride Day. I challenge all of you to come out of the closet. ‘Fess up to those bloggers out there who you read faithfully or just stumble upon perchance. Let them know that you’re out there.

(One final note – I read this gal’s blog daily. She is a stranger in a sense, although her sister is the wife of a friend of the husband of my friend. I love her writing, but more importantly, I want to be her friend because she seems fun and cool and she appreciates being a bottle blonde like me. But today, at last, I’m going to tell her. Read what I say here.)

Oh, and if you noticed my post's title is a nod to The Smiths then you win a prize.
I'll even let you pick it out and buy it yourself.

mrs. dub, you are so clever.

that is so random that you are so connected to natalie. it really is a small world.

also, your final link didn't work, but is this the right one:
http://cjanerun.blogspot.com/

because i read her blog and love it, too.

i would love to see all the people who read my blog. i check my stats all the time. i like to see what cities they live in. most of them are strangers who now know my daily goings-on and thoughts. blogging is weird, but i love it.

i totally called that quote, too! i already got myself a prize (see my blog :) ) and let me just say, natalie was so thrilled that you commented. you forgot to mention that my dad and your aunt colleen went to highschool together and she signed his yearbook. not that that has anything to do with natalie, but still. AND your sis, mrs. gee is now in my parents' old ward. oh i could go on and on.
i read c. jane's blog, too. just found it the other day. and i agree that we should all comment, i mean, who doesn't love a comment? especially a really wordy one like this?

amen to everything said here - I too, check my own blog multiple times a day, in addition to many others - yours being one of those. I LOVE YOUR BLOG! I do wish that more people would make comments, though - it makes my day when someone gives me validation on what I exprss in my little bloggy. and I can't say it enough - congrats on your perfect little miss dub. OH and if there weren't enough connections to our "never met before, yet are confident we would be friends in real life" situation, I used to be "pen pals" (read - communication via snail mail all before email) with your eldest sister - WILD! yes, bloggers of the world unite indeed.
