Don't pinch the birthday girl

A hearty "Happy Birthday!" to my fabulous sister, Mrs. Gee, who just happens to share her birthday with an Irish holiday that's frankly an excuse to get drunk and pinch people. As a small child, I thought all the St. Patty's hub-bub was for my sister, who apparently loved green and shamrocks. Only later did I realize it was a separate holiday and that she didn't care that much for its subsequent pranks (especially the pinching). I think she just endured it to please her well-intentioned guests who just assumed she loved it because it was, in fact, her birthday. Today, however, I suggest that we all treat St. Patrick's as a national holiday celebrating my sister. If she wants to have orange juice instead of green beer (and I'm pretty sure she does), then the whole world must oblige and get tipsy on citrus. If she wants to wear red instead of green, then everyone must dress up like they work at Target. If she wants to honor the French (and their yummy toast) instead of the Irish, so be it. This is her day and however she wants it, she will get it. She's that special. And it's her birthday!
