Boliche

Last night, I joined some gal pals from church for a heated game of bowling. OK, so it wasn't very competitive since most of us aren't avid bowlers and the bowling establishment we went to wasn't your average alley. It looked like it was a converted hotel lobby with only a handful of lanes, no arcade, no snack bar and no smoking. (So there were some perks.) The biggest problem is that our lane seemed to be slanted causing most people's balls to lean to the left. Being the freak that I am, however, my balls continued to veer right. With 9 people using one lane, there was such a wait between each turn that it was hard for me to improve my game because by the time I bowled again I had forgotten my prior mistakes. Still, bowling is fun, though I don't do it much -- except for when I was on my mission and the elders insisted on heading to the bowling alley every p-day to play some boliche. The alleys there are unbelievable. Obviously, boliche is some sort of high-end sport there because the alleys are immaculate, there's gourmet food and all the Britney Spears songs you could ever want to hear at full volume with colorful strobe lights. Despite my recurrent practice, however, my performance remained sporadic: three strikes followed by five gutter balls and a spare or some other random combination. Same went for last night, minus the strikes and spares. I finished with a whopping 64 points. But hey, it's not whether you win or lose, it's how cool your bowling shoes are. And mine were hot pink and neon green, which made me a true winner.
